A につれて B: as A progresses GRADUALLY, B also changes step by step — "as…, the more… the more…": 日本語が上手になるにつれて、生活が楽しくなった (as my Japanese improved, life became more enjoyable). Before につれて comes a verb in the dictionary form or a noun expressing change (成長、変化…).
The key point: clause B must be a change that happens NATURALLY, beyond one's control — don't put commands, intentions, or invitations in the second clause. 寒くなるにつれて、コートを買いたい is wrong; to express an intention, switch to a different pattern.
