〜に伴って

Accompanying, hand in hand withmachine translation

FormationNoun + に伴って; verb dictionary form + のに伴って (written style: に伴い)

A に伴って B: event B happens accompanying, hand in hand with event A — A can be a major change (a typhoon, an earthquake, economic development) or an event that brings consequences with it (moving house entails address-change paperwork). This is a formal pattern, very common in news reports and documents: 台風に伴って、風も強くなるでしょう.

Connection: noun + に伴って; verbs add の: 引っ越すのに伴って. In stiff written style, に伴い replaces に伴って.

Comparison within the parallel-change group: につれて is used only for GRADUAL, step-by-step change; に伴って works both for gradual change and for one-time events with accompanying consequences. とともに and にしたがって sit between those two extremes. In everyday conversation, Japanese speakers lean toward につれて or とともに; に伴って sounds very much like a news broadcast.
