〜ましょう

Use 〜ましょう when you propose that both of you (or the whole group) do something together: "let's…". It is also the way to respond to a 〜ませんか invitation: 「ええ、行きましょう。」= Sure, let's go.

How to form it: ます-form, drop ます, add ましょう. Unlike 〜ませんか (which asks the listener's opinion), 〜ましょう takes the initiative outright, so it fits when you're fairly sure the other person will agree.

Examples

• 駅(えき)の前(まえ)で会(あ)いましょう。

  Let's meet in front of the station.

• もう遅(おそ)いですから、帰(かえ)りましょう。

  It's late already, so let's head home.

• 一緒(いっしょ)に昼(ひる)ご飯(はん)を食(た)べましょう。

  Let's have lunch together.
