N5

〜ましょうか

Shall I…? / Shall we…? (offering help or asking for input)machine translation

FormationVerb ます-form (drop ます) + ましょうか

〜ましょうか has two main uses: (1) offering help — 「持ちましょうか。」= Shall I carry that for you?; (2) asking the listener's opinion to decide together — 「何時に会いましょうか。」= What time shall we meet?

How to form it: ます-form, drop ます, add ましょうか. Compared with 〜ましょう, adding か softens the sentence because you're asking rather than deciding for the listener.

When someone offers to help, you can accept with すみません、お願いします or decline gently with いいえ、大丈夫です.
