〜てください

Use 〜てください when you want to ask or request that someone do something politely. It's a pattern you'll meet every day in classrooms, shops, and hospitals.

How to form it: conjugate the verb to the て-form and add ください. To ask someone NOT to do something, use the opposite pattern 〜ないでください.

With superiors, or when asking a big favor, it's best to open with すみませんが to soften the request.

Examples

• ちょっと待(ま)ってください。

  Please wait a moment.

• この漢字(かんじ)を読(よ)んでください。

  Please read this kanji.

• 明日(あした)八時(はちじ)に来(き)てください。

  Please come at eight o'clock tomorrow.
