〜やすい

Easy to do somethingmachine translation

FormationVerb ます-form (drop ます) + やすい

To say an action is "easy to do," take the verb's ます-form, drop ます, and add やすい: 読みます → 読みやすい (easy to read), 分かります → 分かりやすい (easy to understand), 使います → 使いやすい (easy to use).

After adding やすい, the whole unit behaves like an ordinary い-adjective: negative 読みやすくない, past 読みやすかった, linking 読みやすくて….

〜やすい has two nuances: "easy to do" (この靴は歩きやすい — these shoes are easy to walk in) and "prone to happen, happens easily" (割れやすい — breaks easily). The opposite pattern is 〜にくい (hard to…) — learn these two patterns as a pair.
