〜に慣れる
To get used to, to grow accustomed tomachine translation
FormationNoun + に慣れる/Verb dictionary form + のに慣れる
〜に慣れる expresses becoming accustomed to a new environment, job, or habit: 新しい生活に慣れる (get used to a new life). 慣れる is an intransitive verb; its object is marked with the particle に, not を.
When you want to say you've gotten used to an action, nominalize the verb with の and then add に: 漢字を書くのに慣れる (get used to writing kanji) — you learned this nominalization at N4. The state of "already being used to it" takes the ている form: もう慣れています; the gradual process of getting used to something usually goes with だんだん or 少しずつ.
Distinguish it from 〜ようになる (N4): ようになる describes a change in ability or habit in general (食べられるようになった — came to be able to eat it), while に慣れる emphasizes adapting — no longer finding something strange or difficult. You'll also see the form 慣れた before a noun: 慣れた仕事 (familiar work).
