そして・それから・でも
And / after that / but (sentence-initial conjunctions)machine translation
FormationPlaced at the start of a sentence, linking to the previous sentence
These are the three most common conjunctions at N5, and they always start a new sentence. そして adds an idea in the same direction ("and, moreover"); それから introduces what happens next in time order ("after that"); でも presents a contrasting idea ("but").
Because they start a new sentence, they differ from が: が joins two clauses inside one sentence, while でも opens a separate sentence. You can use them to tell a story in sequence: sentence 1。それから、sentence 2。
A comma (、) usually follows the conjunction before the rest of the sentence.
