〜てくれてありがとう
Thanking someone for doing something for youmachine translation
FormationVerb て-form + くれて + ありがとう(ございます)
To thank someone for something they did for you, put that action in the 〜てくれて form before ありがとう: 手伝ってくれてありがとう (thanks for helping me). The 〜てくれる part confirms the favor was directed at you, and the て-form links it to the thanks.
Saying ありがとう alone is just a generic "thank you"; adding 〜てくれて states exactly WHAT you're thankful for — it sounds far more sincere. With superiors, elevate the whole phrase to the honorific level: 〜てくださって、ありがとうございました (using くださる instead of くれる).
By the same logic, when apologizing for something you did, you also use the て-form: 遅れてすみません (sorry for being late) — the 〜てすみません pattern is in the chapter on て-form sentence patterns.
