疑問詞+〜か

Indirect questions with a question word (who, what, where, when…)machine translation

FormationQuestion word + plain form + か (nouns and な-adjectives drop だ)

When a question containing a question word (何, だれ, どこ, いつ, どうやって…) is embedded inside a larger sentence, you keep the question word and close the clause with か: 会議が何時に始まるか知っていますか (do you know what time the meeting starts?).

The clause before か is in the plain form; nouns and な-adjectives drop だ: あの人がだれか知りません. After か you often find 分かりません, 知っていますか, 教えてください, 忘れました. Note that the subject inside the embedded clause is marked with が.

Compare: a yes/no question (no question word) → 〜かどうか; a question with a question word → 疑問詞+か. Between them, these two patterns cover all indirect questions — the exam loves making you pick the right one.
