N4

〜とか〜とか

Things like… and… (non-exhaustive listing)machine translation

FormationNoun / verb in plain form + とか (+ noun / verb in plain form + とか)

〜とか〜とか lists examples non-exhaustively, like the 〜や〜など you learned at N5, but it's more colloquial and used a lot in conversation: 掃除とか買い物とか (cleaning, shopping, that sort of thing).

The biggest difference from 〜や: とか can list VERBS and adjectives in plain form too, not just nouns: 音楽を聞くとか映画を見るとか (listening to music, watching movies, and so on). 〜や can only join nouns.

The final とか can be kept or dropped; it's usually followed by をする, がある, and the like: 掃除とか買い物とかをします. In formal writing, go back to 〜や〜など — とか sounds quite casual.
