〜たらいいですか

What/how should I…? (asking for advice)machine translation

FormationQuestion word + verb た-form + ら + いいですか

When you don't know what to do and want to ask for advice, use a question word + た-form + らいいですか: "what should I…?". The most common sentence is どうしたらいいですか (what should I do?).

Question words that often accompany it: どう (how), 何 (what), どこ (where), いつ・何時 (when, what time), だれに (to whom). The person asked usually answers with 〜たらいいですよ or 〜てください.

You can also substitute the ば-form: どう行けばいいですか — the meaning is virtually unchanged. In casual speech, drop ですか: どうしたらいい?
